These accessible new books provide a wholly context-based approach to teaching and learning maths. Created by authors with a strong understanding of the needs of this cohort and the pedagogical advantage for using real world contexts, students are encouraged to identify and connect maths to their lives. A range of investigations and practical hands-on activities explicitly draws on the problem-solving cycle helping students see maths as a tool to solve everyday problems. Modern technology is incorporated through the use of spreadsheets, apps, calculators and graphing tools as solutions to problems they may face in the workplace or life. The Interactive Textbook offers students workspaces and self-assessment tools, videos for a selection of worked examples, auto-marked quizzes, Desmos interactives, and a range of downloadable activities to give them the best support for VCE Foundation Mathematics success. The wholly context-based maths content gives students a new insight into how to identify the maths in everyday situations and use it to solve problems. The wide range of real world contexts reflects the diverse interests of Victorian students and reveals profiles of different career paths that require everyday maths. Topics are carefully sequenced with explicit demonstration (and repetition) of maths skills and students can check they have mastered the topic through the bookending of learning intentions and success criteria (with example questions).
