Around 3.3 million were current smokers, with the vast majority (91%) of these people smoking daily. Males were more likely to be current smokers than females (22% compared with 18%). In 2007-08, around 9% of young men aged 15-17 years were current smokers, with the rate peaking at 33% for those aged 25-34 years before declining to around 5% for men aged 75 years or over.
